Cellulite is one of the most common body skin concerns and one of the most resistant to treatment. It affects the majority of women to some degree regardless of weight, fitness level or body composition, which means the market for cellulite treatments has never lacked for claims that outrun the evidence. This post sets out what Morpheus8 Body can realistically contribute to cellulite improvement, what the published research shows, and what the limits are.
Cellulite has a specific structural cause. Understanding it is the starting point for understanding which treatments have any meaningful effect on it and why.
Cellulite is not simply fat. It is a structural change in the way fat is organised beneath the skin. Fibrous septae connect the skin to the underlying fascia, and in the areas most affected by cellulite, these septae pull downward on the skin while fat lobules push upward between them, creating the dimpled or orange-peel appearance on the surface.
The septae become stiffer and less organised over time, and the skin above becomes thinner and less able to smooth over the underlying structure. This explains why cellulite worsens with age, why weight loss alone does not eliminate it, and why skin-surface-only treatments tend to produce minimal results.
Morpheus8 Body delivers radiofrequency energy at depth through insulated microneedles. The energy creates a controlled thermal effect within the dermis and subdermal layers, stimulating new collagen and elastin formation and remodelling the fibrous septae that contribute to the dimpled appearance. The mechanism is not cosmetic surface treatment. It works at the structural level where cellulite is formed.
| RESEARCH | Clinical Study Single Treatment Protocol With Microneedle Fractional Radiofrequency for Body Skin Laxity and Fat Deposits Alexiades M, Munavalli GS. Lasers Surg Med. 2021;53(8):1026-1031. The study included cellulite assessment and published improvement in cellulite severity in the suprapatellar (above-the-knee) region. Investigator-assessed improvements at 1, 3 and 6 months. Patient satisfaction rates 50 to 81% across timepoints for the suprapatellar region. DOI: 10.1002/lsm.23397 |
Based on articles retrieved from PubMed, the comprehensive review of radiofrequency microneedling by Alexiades published in Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America specifically noted its efficacy for cellulite and body laxity, confirming that the technology controls penetration depth and energy delivery to target the tissue levels where cellulite originates. The word realistic matters here. Morpheus8 Body can meaningfully reduce the visibility of mild to moderate cellulite in suitable patients. It cannot eliminate cellulite. It cannot produce the results that aggressive surgical subcision or specialised devices designed specifically for cellulite can produce in selected patients. What it can do is improve the overall skin quality, firmness and textural appearance in the treated area, which includes a reduction in visible cellulite severity that most patients find worthwhile.
The improvement is cumulative. Results continue to develop over three to six months as collagen remodelling proceeds, and a course of sessions rather than a single treatment produces better outcomes for most patients with cellulite as a primary concern.
| Considering Morpheus8 Body for cellulite? A consultation at Face for Soul will assess your specific presentation and confirm whether Morpheus8 Body is likely to produce the improvement you are looking for. |
Specific cellulite devices such as Aveli, Cellfina and others that mechanically sever the fibrous septae directly may produce more dramatic cellulite improvement in selected patients than radiofrequency microneedling alone. These are specialist procedures. The appropriate recommendation depends on the severity of your cellulite and whether skin laxity is also a concern.
At Face for Soul, the honest conversation at consultation will address whether Morpheus8 Body is likely to produce meaningful improvement for your specific cellulite presentation, or whether a referral to a plastic surgeon specialising in cellulite treatment is more appropriate.
Face for Soul is based at Castles Yard in Burford, Oxfordshire. Morpheus8 Body consultations are available in Burford and Chipping Norton. Patients travel from Witney, Carterton, Oxford, Cheltenham, Cirencester and across the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire.

Q: Does Morpheus8 Body help with cellulite?
Morpheus8 Body can improve the appearance of mild to moderate cellulite in suitable patients by delivering radiofrequency energy at depth to remodel the fibrous septae and stimulate collagen formation. It is not a cure for cellulite and does not produce the same results as surgical septae release procedures, but published research on microneedle radiofrequency confirms meaningful improvement in cellulite severity in a majority of patients at six-month follow-up.
Q: How many Morpheus8 sessions are needed for cellulite?
Most patients require a course of sessions for cellulite as a primary concern. The exact number is determined at consultation based on the severity of cellulite, the area being treated and your tissue response to the first session. Results continue to develop over three to six months as collagen remodelling proceeds.
