Downtime from Morpheus8 Body is real and varies depending on which areas are treated, at what depth and energy, and how your individual skin and tissue respond. This post sets out what the recovery period actually looks like, area by area, so you can plan appropriately.
Body skin takes longer to recover than facial skin following Morpheus8 treatment. Planning around this, rather than being surprised by it, makes the experience considerably more manageable.
Immediately after Morpheus8 Body treatment, the treated area will be red, warm and swollen. The fine grid pattern from the needle array will be visible on the skin surface. The area will feel tender, similar in sensation to moderate sunburn. This is normal and expected.
For most body areas, this immediate reaction is more pronounced than after facial treatment. Body skin has different circulation and healing characteristics, and the depths used in body treatment mean the thermal effect is more substantial. Plan for the treated area to be visibly red and sensitive for the remainder of the treatment day.
The grid pattern and surface redness typically begin to fade from day two onwards, though the timeline varies. The area may feel tight and tender. Mild swelling often persists for three to five days. Body areas can take slightly longer to settle than facial areas, and it is sensible to plan social or professional commitments around this if the treatment area will be visible.
Mild bruising is possible and was reported in approximately 32% of participants in the Yale and Carolinas clinical study following body treatment. [(DOI: 10.1002/lsm.23397)](https://doi.org/10.1002/lsm.23397) Where bruising occurs, it typically resolves within five days.
Abdomen
Abdominal treatment typically involves several days of redness, warmth and tenderness in the treated area. Clothing that sits tightly against the abdomen, such as waistbands and fitted tops, should be avoided during the initial recovery period. Most patients are comfortable in loose clothing within a day or two and are able to return to non-strenuous daily activity within three to four days.
Upper Arms
Upper arm treatment is often one of the more comfortable areas to recover from because clothing can easily avoid the treated area. Redness and tenderness are typical for two to four days. Tight-fitting sleeves should be avoided. Exercise involving the arms, particularly resistance training, should be paused for at least one week.
Above the Knees and Thighs
Treatment above the knees and on the thighs can involve slightly more pronounced swelling due to the dependent position and the natural fluid dynamics of the lower limb. Most patients find that elevating the legs where possible in the first 24 to 48 hours reduces swelling. Tight-fitting legwear should be avoided. Walking is fine but high-impact activity should be avoided for at least one week.
Bra-Line and Back
The bra-line area recovers similarly to other body areas, with the practical consideration that bra straps and fitted clothing in this area should be kept loose or avoided during recovery. Loose, soft fabrics are preferable for the first few days.
Décolletage
The décolletage is visible and can be more difficult to conceal during recovery. Redness and the grid pattern are typically visible for two to four days. High necklines or scarves can be useful if recovery coincides with social commitments.
Contact Face for Soul if you experience significant or spreading redness, blistering, pustules, signs of infection, or persistent swelling beyond the expected timeline. These are uncommon but should be assessed promptly if they occur.
