Both Morpheus8 and Forma use radiofrequency energy to tighten skin and stimulate collagen. They sit on the same menu, come from the same technology family and are often compared by clients trying to decide which one to book. It’s a sensible question to ask, because while they share a common foundation, they are genuinely quite different treatments, designed for different skin concerns and different lifestyles.
If you’ve been going back and forth between the two, this should help you decide.
To understand the difference, it helps to know what they have in common first.
Both treatments use radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin. That controlled heat triggers the body’s natural repair response, stimulating fibroblast cells to produce new collagen and elastin. Over weeks and months, skin becomes firmer, more elastic and better textured.
The similarity stops there. The way each treatment delivers that RF energy, how deep it reaches and what that means for results and recovery is where they diverge.
Morpheus8 is a medical-grade radiofrequency microneedling treatment. That means it combines two technologies: fine needles that create micro-channels in the skin, and radiofrequency energy delivered precisely through those needles into the deeper layers beneath the surface.
This is not standard microneedling. The depth of treatment can range from 0.5mm for more delicate areas to 4mm for structural work around the jawline or neck. At those depths, Morpheus8 is reaching the subdermal tissue, remodelling collagen at a level that surface treatments simply cannot access.
The result is genuine structural lifting and tightening. For clients with noticeable skin laxity, softening along the jawline, crepey texture on the neck or significant fine lines, Morpheus8 delivers a level of change that reflects the depth of the treatment.
Because of that depth, there is some downtime to plan for. Redness and mild swelling are normal for one to three days following treatment. Most clients can apply makeup after 24 hours. Results develop gradually as collagen remodels, with the full improvement typically visible around 6 to 12 weeks after the final session.
A course of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is the standard protocol, with results that can last up to 18 months.

Forma is a non-invasive radiofrequency treatment. No needles, no micro-channels, no downtime. The Forma handpiece glides across the skin delivering a steady, controlled heat to the dermal layer, stimulating collagen production and improving skin elasticity and circulation.
Clients often describe it as deeply relaxing, similar to a warm facial massage. It is comfortable enough to require no anaesthetic and there is nothing to recover from afterwards, which is part of why it has earned the nickname the “Red Carpet Facial.” You can walk in, have a Forma treatment and walk straight back into your day looking refreshed.
Because Forma works at a shallower level than Morpheus8, it is better suited to clients with milder concerns, fine lines, early laxity, a general loss of firmness or those looking to maintain results between more intensive treatments. It takes longer to build results, with an optimal course of 6 to 8 sessions and results typically lasting around 6 months, after which top-ups every one to three months help to sustain the outcome.
Depth of treatment. Morpheus8 reaches the deeper structural layers of the skin through microneedles. Forma works at the dermal surface with heat alone.
Downtime. Morpheus8 involves one to three days of redness and swelling. Forma has no downtime at all.
Intensity. Morpheus8 is the more powerful option for significant laxity and structural tightening. Forma is better suited to milder concerns or as a maintenance treatment.
Number of sessions. Morpheus8 requires 3 sessions. Forma requires a course of 6 to 8 treatments for optimal results.
How long results last. Morpheus8 results can last 12 to 18 months. Forma results last around 6 months with regular top-ups.
Needles. Morpheus8 uses microneedles. Forma is entirely needle-free.
Morpheus8 is likely the right choice for you if you have visible skin laxity or loss of definition around the jawline, jowls or neck, if you want structural tightening that goes beyond surface improvement, or if you want longer-lasting results from fewer sessions and you’re comfortable with a short recovery period.
It’s particularly effective for clients who have been through significant collagen loss, whether through ageing, menopause or weight change, and for anyone who wants a meaningful result without surgery.

Forma is likely the right choice for you if you have mild or early laxity and want to stay ahead of the curve, if needles are not for you, or if your lifestyle doesn’t allow for any recovery time. It’s also an excellent maintenance treatment for clients who have completed a Morpheus8 course and want to preserve their results between sessions.
For clients who are newer to aesthetic treatments and want to start with something gentle and non-invasive, Forma is a natural starting point.
Yes, and many of my clients do. Forma works beautifully as a complement to Morpheus8, either alongside it during the initial treatment phase or as a maintenance option in between more intensive sessions. The two treatments operate at different depths and with different intensities, which means they can work together rather than compete.
Both Morpheus8 and Forma are available at my clinic in Burford, and the right choice between them really does come down to your individual skin, your goals and how much recovery time you’re willing to plan for. This is something I always assess properly before making any recommendation.
If you’d like an honest, considered view on which treatment would serve you best, I’d love to chat.
